Five on Friday

{This week was half term and we were so lucky with the weather at the start and end of the week. On Monday we went to a nearby National Trust garden and walked around the lake, stopping along the way to climb trees and skim some pebbles.}

{I also took the boys to have their hair cut. It was long overdue as they could hardly see from under their fringes, but we only seem to have time to go in the school holidays.}

{I went to have my own hair cut and coloured the following day. A bit of a radical change but I think I like it.}

{Today, of course, was Halloween so the pumpkins had to be carved and placed on the porch…}

{…before my three little monsters went out trick or treating around the neigbourhood, returning with buckets full of candy. Enough to last them until Christmas I think!}

I’m pretty exhausted myself so that’s it from me tonight. Hope you have a great weekend! X

Five on Friday

{Clear blue skies and pretty blossoms made me smile despite the runny nose and sore throat}

I sat down to write this post and suddenly realised just how tired I am. The weekend really couldn’t come at a better time and for once the diary is quite empty so hopefully we can fit in some proper family time. I’ve been battling a horrible cold all week so it will be great to get a chance to recharge the batteries and just chill out at home. On the plus side we have had some fabulous weather – isn’t it lovely to reach for the sunglasses rather than the umbrella before heading out the door?

{I’ve been trying to stay healthy and boost my immune system with a daily dose of Spirulina. The boys have dubbed it ‘alien juice’ because of the green colour! I have to admit it does taste pretty awful and is just about bearable mixed into orange juice or a smoothie. But if it keeps the cold symptoms at bay it is definitely worth it.}

{I promised Casper that I would include a picture of him dressed as a Viking for his class assembly this week. He did really well, remembering all his lines and the words to the all the songs, and there were quite a few. Strange to think that his next assembly will be the leavers one, before he and his classmates move onto the junior school.}

{My ballerina pumps had their first outing this week. These are from H&M (last year) and so comfy but I need to buy some more – in black, silver and maybe pink.}

{Despite feeling like death warmed up I made it to my rescheduled hair appointment this week. I had a good couple of inches taken off the ends – as I use hair straighteners every day without fail (I know, slap on the wrist for me..), my hair was quite damaged. I love the shorter length though and the lighter colour. I’ve only been to this hairdresser a couple of times but she’s definitely a keeper! Incidentally, while I was there I read an article which argued that taking selfies is good for your self esteem. Not sure I agree with that, it took me about 20 attempts to get one that I was vaguely happy with and I don’t think I’m exceptionally vain.}

Happy Friday everyone! Mine was made even better by the fact that my husband brought me flowers when he came home from work. That doesn’t happen every week, believe me! X

Apart from a rather unfortunate encounter with a bottle of red hair dye in my late teens (my hair was a gorgeous vibrant red for two washes and then a horrible light orange hue for months), I have always been blonde. These days my natural colour is definitely at the mousy end of the spectrum, thus requiring a helping hand from either the sun (unfortunately rarely seen on these shores) or a tinfoil wielding hairdresser to restore it to the shade of blonde I was blessed with as a child.

At the moment my tresses are in dire need of some TLC. I’m almost ashamed to admit it, but I haven’t visited a hairdresser since the end of July (before we went on our summer holiday..) and three months between haircuts is far too long. Part of the reason why I haven’t made that call and booked an appointment is that I just find it such a bore. I’m fine for the first hour or so, having a cup of coffee and reading magazines, but I resent having to give up the two or three hours it takes to have a full head of highlights, cut and blow dry.

But today when an email offering 50% off all colour treatments landed in my inbox, I finally took the plunge and booked an appointment for Friday. I had been toying with the idea of going slightly darker but I think I’m going to stick with my regular colour. Length-wise I’m afraid there’s nothing much to get excited about either as I like my hair to be at least shoulder length so I can tie it up and wear it wavy or straight.

I am tempted by this picture of the always perfectly coiffed Jennifer Aniston, It would mean chopping a few inches off but I suspect my hairdresser will recommend that anyway to get rid of three months of split ends…
